NASA PROJECT
Above is our most recent commercial reverse osmosis we built for NASA. The system consists of two stainless steel high pressure pumps and a total of 21 specially arrayed elements to enable the long term production of 250,000 ohm water at 12,000 gallons per day for cleaning purposes. System operates at a 70% recovery and is controlled with Siemens PLC components. Instrumentation and valving prevent the passage of poor quality water into storage and advises the operator of all operating parameters. Pretreatment includes an oxidizing media, acid washed activated carbon, 5 micron cartridge filtration and ultraviolet disinfection.

Deionization is an ion exchange process wherein all of the positive ions (cations) in the water are exchanged with hydrogen supplied by regeneration with acid and the negative ions (anions) are exchanged with hydroxyl supplied by regeneration with caustic acid. The combining of the resulting exchange products hydrogen and hydroxyl (H+OH) yields H2O or water.The conductive salts in the water are removed. Resistance of the water goes up.
